Mymission2 would like to welcome Jacqui Hynd to the community. Jacqui recently appeared in the mymission2 beat the credit crunch calendar and offered her support to people suffering hardship due to the economic downturn. An amazing effort considering that Jacqui suffered a near fatal stroke in 1995 and couldn’t read, write, talk or walk. 13 years later, there are many things she may never be able to do again. Jacqui has been nothing short of inspirational in her efforts to recover and live a normal life despite still only having the use of one hand.
During the photo shoot for the calendar Jacqui brought along a cook book she has been working on ‘Travels with a One-Handed Cook’. The book is written from her unique perspective and describes her travels before and after the stroke and the influences of her travels on her recipes. Her book aims to simplify cooking and these easy but delicious recipes are perfect for the busy home cook. All recipes were prepared using one-hand which should inspire even the most novice cooks to make an effort in the kitchen! Below is comic strip drawn by her husband which illustartes her journey over the last thirteen years.
... getting mobile is the first step ...
... life is about balance: lose something but gain elsewhere ...
... and really using that gain! maybe with a bit of caution?
“I’ve been inspired to go on line at mymission2 with my books and have published a mission on the site. Check out my mission here. You can also check out my books at the links below:
Travels with a One-Handed Cook as well as
Cook, Eat, Be Happy! have now been listed on Amazon.com.
To show our appreciation to Jacqui and the inspiration she has been to all of us at mymission2 we have granted her $200 to put towards advertising her cook books. The grant was part of our November awards and more details can be found at our blog.

We’re very pleased to announce the launch of the official mymission2 Beat The Credit Crunch Calendar 2009 which will be sold online from the UK and the USA (but can be delivered anywhere in the world).
While homelessness is growing around the world, charities are feeling the squeeze of the global credit crunch. Here at Mission Control we are offering a helping hand to homelessness charities with the launch of this exclusive calendar.
And that’s not all! Because we are celebrating reaching 100,000 members this week we also pledge to donate:
- a further £50,000 to Shelter when we sell 50,000 calendars in the UK, making a total UK donation of £100,000
- a further $25,000 to The National Alliance To End Homelessness when we sell 50,000 calendars in the US, making a total US donation of $100,000
The calendar highlights the fact that you can look fabulous even when you are on a budget and help charity at the same time. We all need to tighten our belts in the current economic climate and looking chic on the cheap is a good way to start. The models featured in the calendar are ordinary people who are keen to offer advice – serious or otherwise – on how to cope, have fun and look great on little or no cash. Professional stylists dressed the models from top-to-toe using clothing and accessories from charity and vintage shops.
Our sincere thanks go to:
- the models – Mohamed, Kristina, Luke, Javor, Justyna, Brian, Jacqui, Kalli, Matt, Lauren, Chris and Amy
- the stylists – Andrew Clancey @ Clanger Style plus Chloe Richardson, Seren Gibson, Russell Phillip Peek, Charlotte Wood and Liz Albone
- the photographer – Nicole @ BlueDrop Photography
- the suppliers – Traid, Oxfam, Rokit and Paper Dress Vintage
- The National Alliance To End Homelessness
View a short “behind the scenes” documentary about the making of the calendar, which includes interviews with the stylists and models.
The calendar is a fantastic and unique gift for Christmas.

One of our top missioners, Laura, has promised to wear a mymission2 T-shirt for a whole week and visit landmarks in her local area including Wembley Stadium! Laura’s idea is intended to raise awareness about mymission2 and highlight the positive work we do here.

Her challenge doesn’t end there though. If she is successful in her current challenge, the busy bee has already planned for challenge no.2 – to throw a mymission2 party in her local town!

First of all I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who entered and voted on the “Find new DJ talent” competition. We had an excellent response to the mission and it was lots of fun hearing your various reasons to win. I’ve listened to all of the mixes that have been sent to me and viewed all your various myspace pages and other blogs. It was extremely hard to choose but in the end the best mix won!
I’m extremely pleased to announce that the winner of the mymission2.com “Find new DJ talent” competition 2008 is …
“Benji” aka Ben Strafford
Info/Bookings – 07988 213897
Ben’s style of DJing, programming and attitude behind the decks is exactly what we were looking for. Well done Ben!
If you entered this competition, as a sign of gratitude, I’ve added all of you to the concessions guestlist for the event. Click here for more details
Also, remember to keep a look out on www.mymission2.com as we will be hosting the DJ competitions more regularly in the future so more of you will get a chance to DJ at top nightclubs around the UK.
Thanks again everyone

According to yesterday’s CityAM: “There’s a company out there, mymission2, seeking models for a so-called ‘Credit Crunch Calendar’, to feature ordinary members of the public who can offer advice to others on how to ‘cope, have fun and look great on little or no cash’”.
That will be us!
We’re looking for anyone who has been affected by the ‘Credit Crunch’ to appear in a calendar (in time for Christmas) to help those whose lives have been completely blighted by poverty. We’re giving £1 from each calendar sold to charity plus we’re going to dress everyone in charity shop clothes, to show how you can be chic on the cheap.
Interested? Please drop us a line at email@example.com, telling us why you should appear in the calendar and be sure to enclose a pic or two.

I’m very pleased to announce that one of our newest missioners, Danny Raper, recently published the following mission on the website:
“I’d love to meet John Squire and have a chat with him about his upcoming art exhibition in London”
I managed to pull a few strings and got him a VIP invite to the opening of the exhibition. Danny was chatting away with John and sipping (free!) champagne all night long … mission accomplished!
Remember folks, we strive to help you achieve your goals so keep publishing your missions and you could be a success story too.

We love great ideas here at Mission Control. We always ask for them.
So when Mission Controller Chris came up with an idea for a video ad, we thought we’d let him run with it. He wrote, auditioned, filmed, directed and edited this ad in no time at all.
Click here to watch the video ad that Chris created (opens YouTube in a new window).
What do you think? Can you do better? If so we’d love to hear from you.

Following on from the success of the Battle of the Bands that we hosted in July, mymission2:unplugged will be held on Wednesday September 17th in London. Click here for more info and to check out the acts.
The venue is the fabulous Ramshackle in Fulham; its new owners are restoring it to its former glory when bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and the Sex Pistols played there!
We’ve got some great sponsorship from Shure, Studiospares, The Premises Studios, and Acoustic Magazine which means there are some fab prizes for the acoustic acts to win.
The audience will decide who wins! At the end we’ll ask the audience to cheer for each act … so we need you to come and support the performer you know or just cheer for the act you like the best.
Tickets are £5 in advance (you can buy them online here) or £6 on the door.
It’s sure to be a great night and we look forward to seeing you there.

Yes, we did it! We SMASHED the world speed record for 2 people to burst 100 balloons. The record was previously held by Dermot O’Leary and Alan Conely who got the record at about 25 seconds on a live TV show (The Paul O’Grady show) in 2006.
Previous holders of this record include Vernon Kaye – TV presenter.
But David Ashford (CEO) and Will Ferrand (Mission Controller) – representing mymission2 – totally smashed the record by bursting all 100 balloons in just 12.25 seconds!
We’re waiting for official confirmation from Guinness World Records before we break open the champagne though.
